| STEP BY STEP GUIDE PART 4- BACKGROUNDS AND LINES | BACKGROUNDSMost people either use a certain colour or image to act as a background to their webpages. Colours are easy. Just select the background colour you want (by try an make it readibly with the text on top You can acquire background images in the same sort of way you get any graphic (see our previous page). Usually they are not an image that covers the whole page but one that will tile together to give a consistent finish for example this image Will tile out as below By doing this they take up less space and are quicker to download. We use a varient of this image (without the border) which is a mere 137 bytes. Again they need to be .jpeg,.jpg or .gif files Adding one is simple Click format -> Background. You can select the background (Y) colour or (X) image
(Remember if using an image, put it in your website folder before selecting it) To select image just tick the box (X) then click on browse and find your image and click on it. Check that once you've done that the box beside just reads the file name (e.g back.gif) not a long link name (otherwise you'll have made a link that only works on your hard drive) If you select watermark (above (X)) the image stays still as the text and images scrolls over the top Wwith webpages, like any text document, it is often useful on break up areas with lines to give the page some structure (like the ones used above) Click cursor where you want one and select insert -> horizontal line. If you highlight a line and right-click you can edit its properties.
Just adjust your options to create a line that suits e.g 75% wide right aligned 4 pixel tall line with shading
You can obviously do some special effects with lines. This is a 150 pixel wide center aligned 20 pixel tall line with no shading
