INSERTING WEBBOTS

Webbots

What the hell is a webbot I hear you ask!! They are small programs created by Microsoft to add extra feature to your site. Some (i.e. the Search webbot) rely on extensions for Frontpage express being present on your server (hence may make it not to useful.

To put one in either click the icon or click insert -> webbot and then select your type (described below). Any sub menu is self explanatory

The most useful is the timestamp webbot which will update the time everytime you edit the page with Frontpage Express

Next is the search webbot.
If you enter a term it will search the page for it but only if the server you are using has Frontpage extensions installed. (This example doesn't work !!)

Search for:

The include webbot puts another page into your page from that point

Here is an example. We've embedded one of the video example files into this page

ONCE YOU'RE READY,
TO CLOSE THIS WINDOW
CLICK ON STOP

The big advantage is that every time you update the page that is inserted all you have to do is open and save the file where it has been included in

Simply select included and type in the URL box your target URL (this can be a relative or absolute URL e.g. ../folder/yourother.htm or http://www.whateverserver.com/yourfile/index.htm).

One way to use it is for updating a site. You could create a page just containing your menu and have that webbot included in all your webpages. When the menu is updated all you have to do is edit the menu master file and open and save all your other files rather than editing all individually.
